Adare Begin Production On ‘An Jig Gig’ and ‘Instrumental’
03 Jul 2012 : By Steve Cummins
‘An Jig Gig’
Adare Productions have begun production on a fourth series of ‘An Jig Gig’ for TG4 as well as a brand new series for RTÉ entitled ‘Instrumental’ involving the RTÉ Concert Orchestra.

Dance talent show ‘An Jig Gig’ is two weeks into a four-week production and is filming in RTÉ studios in Donnybrook. The 13-episode series once again aims to find Ireland’s best traditional dance acts with one winner to be crowned TG4’s An Jig Gig champion of 2012.

Returning show presenter Róisín Ní Thomáin (Pop4) will again be joined by a three-person judging panel featuring champion Sean-nós dancer Labhrás Sonai Choilm Learrai and former Riverdance lead dancers Breandán de Gallaí and Dearbhla Lennon..

Adare’s managing director Brian Graham (Feis and Blood) is directing the series, which will be produced by Tom Evans (The Afternoon Show). The show is due to air on TG4 in September with post-production set to take place in-house at Adare. Stephen Doran will edit.

Adare have also just begun working on ‘Instrumental,’ which went into production last week at Kilruddery House in Bray.

The six-episode show will see three candidates become students of the RTÉ Concert Orchestra over a five month period number when they will learn to perfect a musical instrument from scratch and face a number of musical challenges along the way.

David Brophy, the principal conductor of the orchestra, will accompany the students on their journey, which will eventually lead to a solo performance with the acclaimed orchestra.

Speaking to IFTN, Adare’s amanaging director Brian Graham said the series will see TV audiences “get to know the RTÉ Concert Orchestra like we’ve never known them before. It shows what a great gang they really are and they are really pivotal to the whole series.”

The BAI/RTÉ funded project received €250,000 of its €330,000 budget in the last round of BAI funding and is due to air on RTÉ 1 in October with production continuing up until the final show in November. Colin Cowman will series produce and direct ‘Instrumental’ while Adare have yet to make a decision on a post-production house.

Brian Graham will executive produce with the bulk of the filming set to be carried out on location in Kilruddery House.
